Welcome, Zombie Disco Squad!
ZDS = Nathaniel Self & Lucas Hunter.
All we know about these two sympathetic fellas is that they are based in London where they run the infamous “Get Rude” night, DJ around the world in 80 days, party like the Muppet Show Animal and make undogmatic music [mingling 'back-to-the-roots' instrumentations, hifi percussions and all kinds of Southern American languages (especially Brazilian)] which is FUN to play and dance to.
We also know that it has been somewhat hard to obtain their productions in “regular” vinyl / download shops. So, you can consider yourself lucky [if you are not that much at home in the depths of the wild wild web]: we heard from some rather reliable sources that you will soon be able to get Zombie Disco Squad tracks and remixes on good old vinyl and highquality DRM-free MP3s / Waves … on a few labels near you. Oh yes!
What they say about themselves:
“Zombies say YES: claude vonstroke, trumpets, tomtoms, baile funk, vans shoes, penfield, coffee, brazil, man recordings, tartlet recordings, dan m, berlin, london, house music, people that say please, jack daniels, vodka, sanpellegrino, bot, phra and the rest of the italian new wave, get rude, dj funk, lil wayne, frankie knuckles, african rhythms, brie & stilton, stickers, free clothes, partyharders, booty call.
Zombies say NO: new rave, breaks, blog house, dreadlocks, slow computers, bad mp3s, crap promos, writers block, rollerblades, mens cycling shorts, sandals, rain, bad design, bandwagon jumpers (suddenly like disco?), ryan air, nazis, cheeky promoters, skins, cheapskates.”

Welcome, Skoozbot!
I stumbled accross the name “Skoozbot” a while ago, when I was playing in a club in East Germany. Skoozbot’s track “Next to Monchhichi” was being pumped out on the soundsystem - I loved the bassline and the simple percussions, the stripped down raw groove. After decksharking it [or rather screensharking it - thank you Mignon ;)], I was a little surprised that this was a Plus8 release, as it seemed much more “accessible” and ‘groovy’ to me then most of the other stuff I knew from this seminal label. Finding out that Skoozbot is a new addition to the Plus8 / Minus posse, it was obvious that we had to invite el Skoozo for a special Halloween showcase.
Here is the official Skoozbot bio:
“Brian Connelly ( a.k.a. SKOOZBOT), an Indiana native and Michigan transplant, has long been interested in the interaction between humans and technology. This interest has been met in his love of electronic music, which is made by machines yet fueled by the soul. As a DJ over the past decade, Brian has never been satisfied simply blending two tracks together and has long sought to augment his mixing by incorporating the limitless possibilities provided by technology. Endless experimentation with both hardware and software has helped bridge the gap, but as technology continues to grow, so does Brian’s curiosity for using it to open up new possibilities.
This blend of the human and the electronic is further explored in his productions, where Brian aims to re-create instantaneous human emotions through electronic sounds. Although these snapshots of our consciousness can occur for just brief moments in our lives, they can continue on and be further evolved through music.”
Thank you Skoozbot!

Kandel “Familie Schroffenstein” EP on Diskomafia
October 22, 2008 | Releases | 1 Comment
Diskomafia is proud to announce Kandel’s “Familie Schroffenstein” EP, which tells the story of a weird family vacation full of surprises. The EP features 4 distinct dancefloor tracks that are bound to be loved by DJs for they tooly feel and by the partycrowd for their fun factor.
The title track “Familie Schroffenstein” ["Family Schroffenstein"] is an unusually squint piece of house music, where the main elements are a repetitive synthie melody mingled with pseudo-saxophone funkyness, both topping a wobbly bassline.
“Im Nagetiermuseum” ["In the rodent-museum"] is an ode to the Berlin nightlife, featuring an acidic bass, flying cut & paste sounds and odd percussive elements that generate a driving dancefloorkiller.
Whereas “Die Reise zum heiligen Berg” ["The journey to the holy mountain"] is the most ‘beautiful’ of the 4 tracks, it refers to a more ‘classic’ Detroit approach in a handcrafted analogue shell. Finally, “Die graue Herrin” ["The grey mistress"] is a mean straight functional and dirty techno track for dark moments.
—
“Familie Schroffenstein” is supported by San Francisco - resident Mr. Claude Vonstroke, “Die Graue Herrin” gets played by German Techno-combo Superflu.
