Keinemusik is not the type of record label as you know it. When putting out a record, the guys will wrap it up personally, refine it with artistic splendour, stamp it and seal it with a kiss, before it ends up in the stores or on your turntable. Question is: Why let someone else do the filthy job, when you can get it done as lousy by yourself. Or maybe even a bit better. Keinemusik is a DIY-operation. Not, because it makes that imposing impression or because they like to wallow in nostalgia, just because it feels right. Keinemusik is a label-, booking- and partynetwork. Everything happening there gets onto Keinemusik.com on time and bilingual. But above all, Keinemusik is the spirit that moves the collective behind the imprint. The Keinemusik-Clique would rather throw a BBQ than meditate over some businessplan and whatnot. Some of the guys are putting out records, bringing the elegance and the sexappeal back into the Deep- and Techhouse-game. Others are more into the mixing of records for entertainment purposes, some are multimedia-knowitalls, some spread the word on blogs or in magazines, some are into producing art with insane appreciation value. If there’s a credo, it would be: you don’t necessarily need to be overly serious to be taken seriously. Welcome to the party, brothers and sisters!

“X True til death X”

Techno’s biggest flaw is its self-referencial tendency. You know the deal, the common contemporary DJ/Producer steals an Underground Resistance-Record from his older brother at the age of 16 (biographical details may vary, not to impair the facts, though), thus presuming to have found the holy grail (what, of course, nobody is claiming to deny).

His world is shrinking down to Detroit, Chicago, New York and Berlin within the following years, he’ll equip himself with records and turntables and not look over the rim of his MKII ever again.

Adam Ports biography is different. Adam was Hardcore, when he was 16. No, not Rotterdam-Hardcore. We’re talking New York-, Boston- and Washington D.C.-Hardcore here. It’s a past that he still lives up to, cultivating it in his vegetarian-straight-edge-lifestyle. After that there was HipHop. He got in touch with turntablism, discovered his love for vinyl and evolved to be a skilled DJ for the first time. Then, finally came Techno. This way of tracing down spaces, giving one the best possible chance of self-development, is the essential reason for Ports presence being so unique. There’s no scene-dictated tunnel view in his activities, there is only a pointed emphasis on style, on groove and sophistication. An emphasis, that, because it’s informed by Dub, Danchall, Rap, Soul or even Psychedelic Rock, is advanced enough to always shine through the inflationary characteristic of the genre as notably original. That applies to both, his productions and his DJ-sets. What Adam Port is laying his hands on might have its place within the parameters of House and Techno, but it’s always more than that. It’s his style.

“Drop your Droors!”

You may not have heard so much from André (aka &ME) so far. Instead of the flash and glitter associated with most of his producer colleagues, he’s preferred to stay in the shadows, co-producing and ghost writing for artists like DJ Hell and Terranova.

Now after putting out his first solo single on Keinemusik, which was supported by all the key players (Front Room label boss Jesse Rose, Luke Solomon, Gabriel Ananda, Danny Tenaglia and Dubfire plus many more) &ME is finally ready to ‘go public’ as they say. He may have taken some time to figure out his own style of blending Techno and House music but now he’s out there’s really no escape. With a name like an attention deficit child’s mantra it’s a wonder he stayed ‘in’ so long.

Welcome, Rampa!

Chances are, you’ve heard of Rampa before. Sure, he’s known for coming up with the most elaborate staches in the game, he’s got imposing skills when it comes to throw BBQs and riding scooters and whatnot, but we’re talking something different here. Rampa has a history of producing acts that found their way directly into the charts. Some of his collaborations include Lottergirls, Terranova and Princess Superstar. But since he put out his first EP entitled “Grill Royal” and the single “Tanz auf mir” on TNT/Terranova Recordings in 2008, he made a name of himself quite instantly.

Recommended by his fellow colleagues A-Trak and LCD Soundsystem, Nike Shoes approached him and requested a track for their campaign. The result was “AM 1990”.One of his more recent projects would be an albumproduction together with Nomi of Hercules & Love Affair fame. The first single out of this cycle is soon to be released on Rebirth. Plus there are a lot more things to come on Keinemusik, his own little D.I.Y.-cosmos, being not only label, but also crew of likeminded Djs, producers and friends. Just recently he released his Keinemusik-debut with “Wife & Man” and is working on remixes soon to be released on Get Physical and Front Room Recordings.

If he’s not spitting out new material, Rampa is likely to be found behind some turntables between Berlin and New York, representing his own definition of Techno and House, bridging the gap between deepness and elation. Never taking things too seriously, apart from those serious grooves he’s got in his pockets.

Crossing borders is a familiar experience to David Mayer. Though being born in south Germany, he spent most of his youth living in Norway and (for a change) in Lanzarote, before Berlin happened to become his home in 2004. As he prefers thinking outside the box, Mayer has always been equally interested in experimenting with diverse forms of music, no matter what musical genre they derive from, although his passion for funked up and heavily pounding 4/4 beats clearly dominates his creative output. Both when spinning records and producing tracks, he is presenting his own interpretation of catchyness, mixing up Techno and House, adding a little deepness, but always keeping an eye on making his audience shake it like a polaroid picture.

His dedication finds its way in several musical excursions as a ghost-/coproducer or audio engineer. Only leaving his desk in order to indulge some serious clubbing, you can be sure this guy knows about priorities. Supervising the successful releases of his fellow combatant Rampa on Terranova Recordings is just one example.

As a founding member of the artists collective and label Keinemusik, David Mayer accounts for pieces like the newsworthy “Fun Girl” remix for Jessica6 and is currently involved in the album producion with Jessica6-singer Nomi of Hercules & Love Affair. But of course, he is also working on the next thing to tie in with his “Nacktenordner EP”, which was released on Keinemusik just recently. Be sure that there are some serious undertakings in the process, that we all should have an ear open for.

“Work the walls!”

Sean Williams aka Worthy grew up around Washington DC in the early days of Deep Dish, Scott Henry and the early American rave scene. In the late 90’s after moving to New York City, he met good friend Justin Martin (eventually becoming flatmates for long years ;)) and was exposed to the sounds of people like LTJ Bukem, Stacey Pullen and Sasha. These artists greatly influenced his early ear while the expanding dance music scene encouraged him to play records of all genres: from hip hop to breaks to techno and drum ‘n’ bass.

In 2001 Worthy moved to San Francisco. He set up his studio and began producing house and techno music and DJing around the city. He later conspired with Christian Martin, Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke to co-create a fresh take on outdoor parties, rightly named Dirtybird. The Dirtybird parties have quickly become an institution for San Francisco die-hards and a destination for international travelers.

2006 brought the launch of Worthy’s label, Anabatic Records. Originally intended as an outlet for the release of his own music, Anabatic soon branched out to take on new artists. The label has been providing a steady stream of high quality tech house and has been gaining the praises of top DJs and Producers around the globe for its edgy groovy sound.

In 2007 Worthy broke out as a producer with his release of “Irst_Te?” on Dirtybird, the “Crack El” EP on Leftroom, and the “Bass Quake” and “Mummer” EPs on Anabatic. As well as doing remixes for Curfew, OM, Utensil, and Tentigo Records. In 2008 Worthy released his underground hit “Work The Walls” and its accompanying music video has given fans a glimpse into the la la land of his mind. He followed this up with his “Madcap” EP and remixes on Lot49, Fresh Meat, and of course Anabatic. Worthy’s music production has been showing up on DJ charts across the world and has been played by everyone from Carl Cox to Sven Vath to Ben Watt.

With no signs of slowing down in 2009, IDJ Magazine called Worthy one to watch in the new year. This year he has already released the “Swing Chord” EP on Trapez Ltd, and has teamed up with label mate Yankee Zulu to release the “Bad Side” EP and the “BS Connection” EP on Playtime records, as well as their summer smasher “Concumbia” on Anabatic. With plenty more remixes and originals on the way and the continued growth of his label, Worthy is set to continue getting everyone working the walls!

“Belfast Massive”

John aka Yankee Zulu’s fascination with dance music started at the tender age of 14 when he acquired his first set of turntables and spent hours upon hours getting to grips with the art of beat mixing in Belfast.

He was first influenced by heavyweights like Carl Cox and Joey Beltram who were playing guest spots at the Hellraiser raves held in the Ulster hall in Belfast in the early nineties. On the local front influences came in the form of David Holmes and Ian McCready who ran the legendary SugarSweet parties. As a result of all this he quickly developed a love for all things house and techno, something that remains evident in his productions today.

He would religiously scour local record shops every weekend looking for the freshest sounds he could find, and bombard his friends with his weekly mix tapes. John regularly attended Timmy Stewart and Mark Bell’s Digital Boogie and Tsunami parties and got a real taste of proper electronic music by hearing what  guests like Chris Duckenfield, Hipp-E, Miguel Migs and Ralph Lawson were up to behind the decks.
Around the same time John (not to do things by halves) passed 6 mixes onto Shine and Stiff Kitten head honcho Alan Simms, resulting in a booking not long after. After a few stellar performances John was soon asked to become an official Shine and Stiff Kitten resident and put in performances across both venues, playing alongside the likes of Damian Lazarus, Andrew Weatherall, Freeform Five, Paul Woolford, Agoria, Green Velvet and many more.

Production was the next logical step so John experimented in the studio as the Sigma Kids, releasing two tracks on ISHO Recordings. It was later decided that he should go into the studio with Timmy Stewart to work on some music, which was promptly picked up by Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs imprint, and so the Jet Project was born. Gaining more studio knowledge and confidence, John started his solo project Yankee Zulu, which leaned more towards his love of filthy jacking house sounds.  After sending out demos, a myspace friendship was struck up with Worthy, label boss of San Francisco-based Anabatic Records. His debut material dropped there in 2008, further tracks, remixes and collaborations with Worthy have since seen the light on Utensil Recordings, Om Records, Playtime and Anabatic.

…während andere schlafen und sich für einen harten kommenden Arbeitstag vorbereiten, wird in Berlin auch unter der Woche zu elektronischer Tanzmusik gefeiert – und das wie am Wochenende und nicht erst seit kurzem. Es gibt kaum einen Wochentag, an dem nicht mindestens 1 – 2 Techno-Partys sogar noch Auswahlmöglichkeiten für die Feierwilligen anbieten. Eine große Anzahl technoaffiner Lebenskünstler, Freiberufler, Touristen, Arbeitsloser, Studenten und auch “Arbeitsfreinehmer” sorgt für ausreichenden Zulauf.

Das Berlin Mitte Institut (Fresh Meat, Kandel und Sacha Robotti) legte gesammelt und mit Freunden die ganze Nacht auf der spektakulären Dienstagswelt auf und fing Stimmen der Veranstalter, Barleute, Türsteher und natürlich Besucher in Live-Interviews ein, um dem interessierten Zuschauer und Zuhörer einen Einblick in Berlins Unter-der-Woche-Feierszene” zu geben.
